Why Does This Site Exist?
Fair question. The internet does not lack for cybersecurity content. Most of it will make your eyes glaze over before the second paragraph.
This is something different.
I’m Sara — IT and Security professional with over 20 years of experience, a strong opinion about why IT budgets keep shrinking, and a slight obsession with making security concepts accessible to people who didn’t sign up to be security experts.
I write about real things that happen to real organizations. Breaches that started with a fish tank. AI features nobody approved. Video calls that weren’t as private as anyone thought. I write about what it actually means to run IT inside a company, and why the belief that IT is a “necessary evil” is both wrong and expensive.
I try to be honest. I try to be useful. And I try to be at least occasionally funny — because security is serious enough without also being boring.
If you want to understand where all of this comes from, these four posts are the right place to start:
The Road to Excellent IT – why the IT team that looks like it’s doing nothing is almost certainly the one doing everything right, and what smooth roads have to do with your network.
Time Is Brain — my IT philosophy, and the story of a network switch that almost cost people their lives because leadership thought “figure it out” was a budget strategy.
I Asked AI to Write My AI Policy — where I stand on artificial intelligence, which is more complicated than either side of the argument usually admits.
The Guy in the Hoodie Was Never the Problem – my security philosophy, why the real threat is probably the 14-year old on mom’s recipe computer, and what a dish catching drips over a hospital UPS has to do with national infrastructure.
Everything else on this site flows from those four things.
Welcome. There are animals.
